Test Shoot with Model Alex Shuey

August 30, 2016 at 9:10 pm

This shoot was for testing out a new product that I’ve fallen in love with recently. Younique Makeup, I first heard about it through a friend, then a cousin, then another cousin, then another friend….well, you get the picture. I finally tried some basic products and loved it! But there was another side to just how it felt that I noticed…..I noticed that it photographs really well! Just as well as another beloved cosmetic product that the industry loves so much. I hear time and time again, that the ‘beloved’ product felt horrible. It weighs you down, makes you break out. Yes, photographs beautifully and has a great staying power. A little too great actually, I once tried a lip stain of their for a Film Awards Show. I wanted a cherry red to match the dress I’d be wearing, but it came out pink against my skin color. :/ It lasted for 3 days even after trying makeup remover, rubbing alcohol, and lots of elbow grease. I hated it, wanted it off. The foundation and powder looked great yet just as everyone’s reports, it was heavy and felt cake-y. When I tried Younique’s Liquid Touch Foundation, I was sold! It didn’t feel as any other foundation that I had tried before! I hardly felt like I was wearing any at all. Then I learned about the Younique Foundation and all the good that they do for those who have been through traumatic experiences in their lives from sexual abuse. Younique Products exist because of the foundation! But they took it one step further, these products are all natural, and because they are all natural, they don’t need to test them on animals! They just keep blowing me away! The 3D Fiber Lash Mascara is my favorite product!

Anyhoo, I wanted to try it out on someone else. I set up with my friend and model, Alex Shuey, to come by for a photo shoot. She mentioned that her eyelashes were in recovery from multiple eyelash extensions. Perfect! So here’s my “test” shoot! Testing these great products…..you really need to try them out for yourself! Looking through these, keep in mind, minimal editing has been done. No retouching of the face has been done.

Younique Products Model is wearing:

Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara

Mineral Touch Liquid Foundation in Taffeta

Addiction Eye Shadow Palette 1

Splurge Cream Shadow in Elegant

And we can’t forget the cinemagraph! *teehee*

Mrs. C’s Portraits

June 21, 2016 at 3:55 pm

I’ve known this beautiful lady for about 10 years and she is amazing! Super charismatic and down-to-earth real! She recently came into town for a conference with Younique Cosmetics from Texas and we were able to connect again while I took her portraits! The wind was strong and the sun was high in the sky, but that didn’t stop us from getting some great images! She executed the cinemagraph idea I had for her perfectly! Check out these fun summertime portraits and then go check out those awesome cosmetics!! They’re becoming a fast favorite of mine to photograph!

I met this adorably cute girl at the Utah Film Awards earlier this year and knew immediately I wanted to work with her! Later I found out she is one of the stars in Saturday’s Warrior! I’m so honored she agreed to work with me! I say work….but man, it’s seriously doesn’t feel like work! She is amazing! Check out this Sneak Peek from our shoot! Just a few of my ultimate favorites!

Sometimes I like to shoot through flower petals!

Mythica Cast Members

April 15, 2016 at 2:34 pm

For the last couple of years, my husband has been working on the Independent Fantasy film series, Mythica. (If you like Fantasy movies, I HIGHLY recommend it!!) He is the Re-Recording Mixer with BluFire Studios and he’s gotten to know the cast as they’ve come in for ADR sessions for the movies. These actors are amazing, they’re incredibly talented but still so down-to-earth and personable! The film series is done shooting, the last couple of movies is in post-production as we speak. But while the cast was in town for Salt Lake City’s FanX Con, they were super awesome about squeezing in a quick photo session with me! We weren’t able to get the entire main cast, but we had 3 of them! We have plans in May to get together with all 4! I’m really looking forward to that! For now, here are Adam Johnson, Nicola Posener and Jake Stormoen!

Creative Winter Session

January 24, 2016 at 10:10 pm

One resolution I made for my business is to do more creative projects in 2016! This is the first of many projects I have planned for this year! I was lucky enough to work with the talented Nicola Posener, who stars in the epic fantasy film series Mythica! This creative shoot turned out so much better than I had imagined! It was amazing to work with Nicola and bring this project to life!

Model: Nicola Posener

Hair: Sarah Lewis

I also tried my hand at my first double exposure which I absolutely adore!

12 year Anniversary

September 26, 2015 at 2:12 pm

This shoot was a couple years past due. They really wanted to do this fun shoot for their 10 year anniversary, but she was pregnant! So fast forward 2 years later, this gorgeous girl can still fit into her wedding dress!! How many people can say they can do that!? I certainly can’t! Especially after 3 babies, like she has had! I’m proud to call this beautiful mama and her handsome hubby my family! Check out their gorgeous session and even if you aren’t able to fit into your wedding dress….think about documenting your next anniversary to make it an extra special one! Because it is!

Another Throwback Thursday!

December 5, 2013 at 10:27 am

I started my photography business in 2008, but it was a while before I started charging, I wanted to get really good first! In September of 2009, I ask a couple in my church family if they would model for me! They had only been married for about a year I believe, so I’m sure they already had plenty of pictures from their wedding, but they were so kind and agreed to meet me in the canyon for a session! It was great! The colors were amazing and they were a blast to be around!

Now there are some images for the past where I look at them and run through my head of what I would have done differently. And honestly, with this set, I don’t do that! I look at them with pride! I still love the way they look, the composition, the posing (which was mostly all them!) I couldn’t decide on just one from the session so I chose three! So here they are with how each image came to be!

Photo taken Sept 2009 on my Canon EOS Rebel XSi ISO 250 18 mm f/3.5  1/25 sec.  I brought up the blacks a little but that’s it!

Photo taken Sep 2009 on my Canon EOS Rebel XSi ISO 200 32 mm f/5.6   1/50 sec.  I did crop this shot to draw in more on their faces. Brought up the blacks and intensified the saturation levels of the trees, they were brilliant in real life, but the camera toned it down for some reason, so in post I brought some of that brilliance back!

Photo taken Sept 2009 on my Canon EOS Rebel XSi ISO 200 21 mm f/4.0   1/40 sec.  This is my most favorite shot from the whole session. I did add some warmth in Lightroom, but not much, it was mostly to bring back the wonderful glow that was actually there!

Kim Frandsen, Model Headshots

I absolutely love this girl! She’s such a blast to work with and I’ve developed a great friendship with her through the many times I’ve gotten to work with her on different projects for Whimsey Lane Apparel! She recently had an adventure down in Walt Disney World being the Disney Princesses! Now she’s back in town and needed some updated head shots! Of course, I was happy to provide her with some, but I was especially excited to have this opportunity to use my natural lighting studio for a project that artificial lighting is usually used for. Oh! I have lighting. I just don’t use them, I don’t like them! I’ve always been a fan of how the skin absorbs the natural light and how it’s makes the subject glow in a natural, wonderful way! It’s just how I like to capture my subjects! It probably stems from my Landscape Photography beginnings back in the day, when the only option was film!
